Smoking & Drinking with Diabetes

Smoking

Giving up smoking is one of the best things for you when you have diabetes. But giving up smoking is not as easy to do as it is to say, which is why there is free help and support available from stop smoking services like:

- Smokefree - Help to stop smoking from the NHS

- ASH - the Action on Smoking and Health charity

There are also various treatments available like patches, gum or vaping devices that can help to ease the transition into a smoking-free life.

Drinking

You can still enjoy a drink when you have diabetes, the key is moderation. If you drink too much you can risk having a hypo, quite often the symptoms of a hypo can look like you are drunk, so it is important you carry some medical ID or someone with you knows that you have diabetes.

You can reduce the risks of having a hypo by making sure you don't drink alcohol on an empty stomach.
